I began writing this blog post about five months ago. It’s been sitting in my drafts folder all this time as I’ve been waiting for the right time to finish and post it, and with the country being in an absolute blind panic right now, the Lord reminded me that now is the time.
Especially as followers of Jesus, we need to always remember that we are not beholden to the ways of this world. We live IN the world, but we are not OF the world. And as Psalms 91 says, “You will not fear the terror of night, nor the arrow that flies by day, nor the pestilence that stalks in the darkness, nor the plague that destroys at midday. A thousand may fall at your side, ten thousand at your right hand, but it will not come near you.” Fear has no place in any follower of Christ and if anything is sifting the weeds from the wheat right now, it’s the current climate of fear.
This will make more sense after you read the post, but my prayer for everyone right now is that we stop obsessing over “facts” and start resting in the Truth.

The Lord has been leading me to new understandings of who He is and how He operates. I’ve been seeing things in scripture recently that I haven’t really seen before, particularly in regards to the supernatural.
One of the things He’s been showing me is that there’s a big difference between what you and I see as “facts”…and the Truth.
I think the crux of the difference between facts and Truth lies in the difference between the natural and the spiritual. And our understanding of that difference will determine our understanding of both God and who He is…and ourselves and who we are.
So let’s separate for a moment the ideas of earthly facts and ultimate Truth. Let’s not for the moment assume that truth is whatever compilation of facts we see in the natural. Rather, let’s go with the Biblical idea that Truth is whatever proceeds from the mouth of God who both created and maintains dominion over the natural.
So simply put, Truth is whatever God says – nothing more, and nothing less. And when we align ourselves with what God says and use our own mouths to echo His Truth, we have the power to change the “facts” in the natural. I can tell you from experience, as well as a ton of Biblical examples, that what God says is often the very opposite of all the “facts” found in our surroundings. And when we assume natural “facts” are Truth, we can easily draw conclusions that are lies.
What do I mean? Let’s look at 2 Kings 6…
The king of Syria had sent a huge army to surround the city of Dothan where Elisha, the prophet of the Lord, was staying. Elisha woke up to find himself completely outnumbered and surrounded by a hostile army intent on taking him out. Those were the “facts” of the situation, but it was not the truth of the situation. If Elisha had been looking only in the natural, those facts would have led him to the conclusion that his prophesying days (well, his days in general) were over. But Elisha did not see in the natural, he saw in the spiritual.
‘When the servant of the man of God [Elisha] rose early in the morning and went out, behold, an army with horses and chariots was all around the city. And the servant said, “Alas, my master! What shall we do?” Elisha said, “Do not be afraid, for those who are with us are more than those who are with them.” Then Elisha prayed and said, “O Lord , please open his eyes that he may see.” So the Lord opened the eyes of the young man, and he saw, and behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha. ‘ 2 Kings 6:15-17
The “facts” of the situation were that Elisha was surrounded by a large army of enemies ready to take him out [which, by the way, is way more threatening than what has everyone today so freaked out] His servant saw their enemies and [like everyone is doing today] started freaking out, despairing, losing hope. But Elisha did not just see the facts. Elisha saw the Truth. And the TRUTH of the situation was that yes, there was a physical and hostile army surrounding them that far outnumbered them…but also that there was a higher and larger army surrounding THEM!
The “facts” were that Elisha was surrounded by his enemies but the Truth was that Elisha’s enemies were surrounded by God’s army. And THAT is what Elisha saw. THAT is what Elisha believed in. That is what Elisha knew to be Truth despite the “facts” and THAT is why he had no fear when he saw the army surrounding him. He didn’t stop at “facts” – he aligned himself with Truth.
And we need to remember that natural “facts” are always subject to spiritual Truth. EVERYTHING is subject to the word of God. Like when Elisha looked around and saw his enemies surrounded by God, all he had to do was pray and ask God to blind his them. God granted his request and boom, all of a sudden those “facts” were irrelevant. The tables turned in the blink of an eye as the truth of God was seen, believed, spoken, and depended upon. Elisha’s eyes of faith and alignment with the higher Truth of his situation is what delivered him from the “facts.” [Don’t let the relevance for today escape you].

By faith we understand that the universe was created by the word of God, so that what is seen was not made out of things that are visible. – Hebrew 11:3
…that the heavens existed long ago, and the earth was formed out of water and through water by the word of God…– 2 Peter 3:5
“He said in a loud voice, “Fear God and give him glory, because the hour of his judgment has come. Worship him who made the heavens, the earth, the sea and the springs of water.” – Revelation 14:7
